Did you know that according to recent statistics, research has shown that overspending and not enough research are the 2 most common mistakes for someone to make during their move? Its actually quite frightening when you think of it.
Although, we have only mentioned 2 out of several mistakes, we thought why not share more mistakes with you, so that when the time comes for your next move you can easily avoid them.
Mistake #1: Inadequate Research
Before you decide to purchase a home, or begin to make plans for your new home. Use the internet and research the area. Some factors to research are:
- Crime statistics
- Community centres
- Shopping & Entertainment
- And so forth…..
Its important that you make sure you have enough information about the area, so you can be aware what to look out for for you and your family to get involved in. If you are able, try to visit the area, drive around the area, ask the locals about the area.
Mistake #2: Overspending
Before you purchase a new home, or even hire the services. Make sure to budget your finances wisely, so that you will be covered in case any additional costs are required for you to pay. Make sure to cover any possible costs such as:
- Petrol, if you are driving
- Extra costs/services from the removal company
When hiring the services of a removal company, also make sure that they are very transparent with all their costs, and that they aren’t hiding anything from you.
Mistake #3: Organization Of Boxes
Before you decide to approach any removal company to enquire about their services, make sure that you have a inventory list which covers everything you need to move. Remember, if you give a inventory to the removal company without telling them of any additional items, they will price you on the last you sent them, and any additional items will be charged as extras.
Secondly, whilst packing your boxes, make sure to label them using a marker. So that the removals team can identify which boxes can be fragile or heavy, and so that they will know where to place each box in your new home.
Mistake #4: Packing A Extra Suitcase
Before moving day approaches, don’t make the mistake which many have done so in the past and not pack a extra suitcase.
You need to keep in mind that there may be delays whilst your items are being transported to your new home. Make sure to pack a suitcase which you will have all your basic necessities for the next few days as a precaution.
Mistake #5: Personal Belongings
Literally we are cringing, just mentioning these 2 words. Most importantly, when you are moving, make sure that you keep all your most important items with you. Back them up on a external hard drive before your move so that should anything get damaged whilst you are moving, you will have a back up. Any valuable of sort, you should keep with you.
